Blue crabs in LA?

Is there anywhere I can purchase live blue crabs (like in VA and MD) in the LA area? want to do a crab pickin for 2 for my boyfriend's birthday. thanks in advance!

The blue crabs for which MD and VA are famous are found only in the Atlantic and on the Gulf Coast. Even this year, when the population rebounded a little bit, they are in short supply. With a big push for our crab houses to use authentic Maryland crab, it seems unlikely that any would make their way out to the West Coast. My guess is that the crabs you get are coming from southeast Asia. We've had quite a lot of those out here, too, because of the short supply and most of the crab that goes into crabcakes (with some exceptions, of course) is from Southeast Asia.

I believe we are past the end of the normal season for blue crabs (June through October), no?

yes on the east coast, wasn't sure if it was different on the west? Know they have blues in Mexico, though the flavor may be a bit different
