Where to go for dinner with 16-20 people

jerryann Nov 15, 2012 08:49 AM

I'm looking for a restaurant that can hold a dinner party of 16-20 people in Toronto (downtown or midtown) on a Saturday but I don't want it too pricey (maybe $15-$25 for an entree). Any type of food is okay, but I'd prefer not to go to a pub, steakhouse, or an Italian restaurant.

Oh, we're willing to do an early dinner too (5:30 or 6) if the restaurant is good but can't accommodate us during the peak dinner rush.

Any suggestions?

      Maybe Tabülè on Yonge.

bestellen is big enough to house that many people, and the non-steak items fit in that price range.

I think there are only three or four non steak items on the menu IIRC.

4 mains and 3 steak items, it's a small menu.

Tell us about the diners, the food that might want and the ambience that you seek.
Are you interested in good food or the scene?

Thanks all! I'm interested in both ambience and food, but if I had to choose, it'd be about the food! I really wanted to do Khao San Road but they can't fit such a large group :(. All of my favourite restaurants are too small, too expensive for me to impose on my friends as they're coming out for my birthday (e.g., Ruby Tuesday), or already booked for holiday parties (e.g., Joey at the shops at don mills).

Many of my friends live in Woodbridge or Maple and are new homeowners and parents, so they haven't gone south of Steeles lately, so I really don't want to do a chain restaurant that they can go to anytime.

I'd prefer a place that already has good drinks or in a neighbourhood where we can walk to afterwards to ge some good drinks.

Oops! I meant Ruby Watchco not Ruby Tuesday! Lol!! This is what I get for trying to type with my 8 month old son on my lap trying to grab the iPad!

haha. Its funny b/c I read your post as "Ruby Watchco" despite it saying tuesday- I actually didn't even notice the slip until you pointed it out.

Thanks all. I chose Mengrai Thai as I LOVE Thai food and they were able to accommodate such a large group. It's a little far from any bar, but the food should be worth it!
