Eating out with baby and grandparents, plus date night
We will be in NYC with our baby (will be 10 months) and his grandparents for 3 nights. For convenience, we are renting an apartment near Times Square. Because of baby's napping and bedtime, we don't want to spend too much time in transit to meals.
Could you give me feedback about the following:
(1) Early dinners out, 5:30 or 6. Baby will eat whatever we do (he has no teeth, but likes short rib, pork dumplings, lamb meatballs, frog legs, whatever). Ideas for nice/interesting restaurants nearby (up to a mile+) with high chairs? We'll save more inexpensive ethnic places for lunch (see (3) below). I saw a rec for Trecolori in an old post. How about Breslin (husband liked it)? Others?
(2) Date night while grandparents babysit. Last year, we ate at Sugiyama and Ma Peche (other Momofuku restaurants were booked), and couldn't get a reservation at Babbo. How about a non-kid-friendly place far away from Times Square? Price range up to $100/person, or a bit more if it's fantastic. Is Babbo worth a try or is there somewhere better? How about Japanese?
(3) Lunch nearby. The Swiss in-laws are happy to try new foods. Is there Thai better than Pam's and Room Service? Queens is not an option. Japanese? Chinese?
It's possible the morning nap could be on the go, which opens things up for lunch. Maybe a Momofuku? Or combine a trip to MOMA with the bar room of the Modern?
Thoughts? Thanks!
