Stranded in Jacksonville

Although I have lived in this town for years, I have been forced to take up cooking and develop mediocre cooking skills as a result of an absolute lack of decent choices. I feel trappred in fracnhise hell....Anyone have any suggestions...?

Had a fabulous duck entree at The Good Food company.
    Nice bar scene, too.

Singleton's at the Mayport ferry. Was there last month for fantastic shrimp and Minorcan chowder. Oysters are now plump and substantial. Not a fine dining atmosphere, but great for what they do.

Black Sheep just recently opened up in riverside. It is awesome. What side of town do you live on?

Tried Black Sheep last week and found it to be very good.

What part of town are you in? Jax is so big you have to pick your spots. Best restaurants are in the Riverside/Avondale neighborhoods: Orsay, Brick, 13 Gypsies, Biscottis, Tres Leches.

Marely - you know your stuff. Will travel for respectable chow.... And in Jax you do have to travel

Have you been to St. John's Town Center? I know it's "franchise" city, but it's a very nice, upscale franchise city!
