A friend of mine wants to celebrate her birthday with shabu shabu. Any suggestions?

Do you specifically mean Japanese shabu shabu, or Chinese hot pot? For Chinese I like Happy Family Little Lamb on Main St. in Flushing. They have an enormous selection of ingredients you can order. Little Pepper is supposed to be good, but I haven't been to their new location.

What kind of broth does she like most?

I have not been, even though I pass it most days, but Suki Shabu and Thai is on the corner of 61st Street and Woodside Ave - a block up from the 7 train/LIRR. Can anyone report on it?
