UWS Tamale Lady

nikitwocheese Nov 13, 2012 10:59 AM

So, anyone else partake of the UWS lady discreetly selling tamales (and sometimes atole) on the sidewalk in the W 70s-80s? Next time I see her, I should ask her her schedule, though her english is almost nil. Best tamales I've ever had in nyc.

I just saw a tamale lady this am...a bit before 9AM on 72 / Columbus in front of Chase Bank. I she had tamales (queso and 2 chicken: green and red sauce). Also those rolled up fried tortillas w/ground beef <called ?> and something else she didnt show me / seemed like tamales was only thing she was selling to gringos. I did a search online to see if others have seen her. This is 1st time I have and Im around a bit / I work from home. I would have bought more....the red sauce chicken was tasty. $1.25?!

Unfortunately no, but I have seen a tamale lady selling on 96th and Broadway. Next time I see her I'll ask her if she is the same one.

When is this vendor on 96th and Broadway? There used to be a lady selling empanadas and tamales in the afternoon, but I haven't seen her in a long time.

I've seen her as recently as a month ago in the afternoons (post 4pm through to dusk). With the colder weather and the earlier evenings, I haven't seen her for a while. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

She's there every morning when I head to work at 8am on the south east corner of 96th street.
