Looking for good sushi on UWS or close enough, moderately priced. Any ideas?

Gari on Columbus for whimsical spins on the usual fare. I knocked a full cup of hot green tea onto my lap, causing the server to scream, so unfortunately I've been shamed and feel I can never go back.

Sushi Yasaka on 72nd west of Broadway. But avoid peak times; it's much more comfortable and consistent when it's not jammed.

Yeah, I'd vote for Yasaka as well. Their Omakase at $45 is really an excellent value. The only thing better on the UWS is Sushi of Gari, and that's much more expensive.

Have never heard of this Yasaki place...can anyone vouch for it w/ a more detailed review?...personally, i don't think the UWS has even a place for a decent slice of pizza or an above-average Chinese takeout, so i'd be pleasantly suprised the area is harboring a solid sushi place...

We def have decent slices (not great or above average but decent) ... but I'd settle for even average chinese takeout...

hey, we have one of the city's best baguettes at Epicerie Boulud. that's gotta count for something. and, and Levain!
