Fancy / Specialty liquor shops In NY?

Hi fellow chowhounders, I need your help please.

I'm visiting from London soon and was wondering if there are any high end or specialty liquor stores in NY? I need a place that would sell stuff only found in the US if possible...like good rums, artisan bourbons, that kind of thing.

Thanks!!

I'm going to cast a vote against Park Avenue Liquor - for a couple reasons.

    1. More than once I've gone in looking for something on their website, only to be informed they didn't actually have it. Three times this happened to me, as I recall.

    2. There is not one single bottle in that store that, if another store in the city has it, isn't cheaper at said other store. They are hands down the most overpriced place in NYC. (MAYBE Winfield/Flynn will have an equal or higher price...)

That said, there are a number of limited editions and such that you'll ONLY find there.

I wouldn't say that Astor is not as "high end" as Sherry-Lehmann or vice versa. Each place, among our top liquor stores, has their specialties.

Another vote for Astor Wines. But to make your visit really special, stop by Amor y Amargo and check out - and taste! - their huge selection of bitters.

Another vote for Park Avenue Liquor Shop. Fantastic selection and extremely helpful and patient staff. Very good prices. Amazing selection of scotch. Oddly though, not on Park Avenue!

Park Ave Wines on Madison Ave is also worth the trip, however it's so tiny that you have to ask them if they have x....

Astor Wine & Spirits is going to be king for what you're looking for, but virtually all liquor stores here (even your neighborhood mom & pop ones) will have some interesting things, in my experience.

NB: Astor carries a lot of stuff that is NOT on the web site because they won't ship it.

There are many such stores--Sherry Lehman, Astor Wines, 67 Wines, Chamber Street Wines, Flat Iron Wines, Acker Merrill...these are all in Manhattan.

Sherry Lehmann I second, it was always neck and neck with Morell's for being the best. Astor has big selection but not as high end as Sherry Lehmann. Acker Merrill are nice people and helped me out quite a bit in the past with special wines but mostly high end Burgandy. Sherry Lehmann will have what you want
