spinach dip w/o the soup mix?

is there a way to make cold spinach dip (ie not one of the hot cheese spinach dips) without the nasty packaged soup taste?

i suppose less soup mix (ie part of the pkg instead of the entire pkg)

just wondering if anyone had some bright ideas out there

Onion powder and dried minced onion are both made from toasted onion; they will generally give you nice toasty flavor without the processed soup mix aftertaste. I might add a little celery seed, plus some garlic and maybe marjoram.
