Polar Seltzer: Limited Edition Winter/New England flavors

I'm sippin' on butter rum right now. It tastes A LOT like toasted marshmallow. Pretty cool.

On deck for tasting soon: Boston cream pie. Here's a photo of the lineup from their Facebook page.

Anyone else tried them? What are your impressions?

I finally bought Granny Smith Apple, too--was it you who had recommended that one some time back?

        1. re: bagelman01

Is it really "sweet"? are these different than their regular seltzers, i.e, sweetened?

          1. re: coney with everything

No, not sweetened with sugar or anything else.

        2. Love the granny smith apple and the mint mojito. Great for "Skinny"cocktails!

Not a fan of the winter flavors but my son loves the mint chocolate and the egg nog ones

Are the mint chocolate and eggnog on the sweet side as well, as bagelman had mentioned the Boston cream was? My mom rolls sweeter than I do. Sort of along the lines of "if you love cream soda (as she does), you'll love this." I do like the butter rum, though...I think it would be fun to spike as well. :)

            1. re: kattyeyes

Yes, those are definitely on the sweet side. I think thats why my 11 year old loves them! ;)

              1. re: foodieX2

I can't wait to tell my 77-year-old mom she has a sweet tooth like an 11-year-old! Talk about young at heart! HA HA HA. She really is a giant kid, that's too funny. Thanks for the giggle. :)

                  1. re: foodieX2

It did--she was laughing right along with us. :) P.S. What is your all-time fave Polar Seltzer flavor? So far, mine is black cherry--delicious on its own and stellar as a mixer with a little lavender simple syrup and some nice gin.

                    1. re: kattyeyes

hands down it is the ginger lemonade. I bought a case since it was limited distro. Love it ice cold with a squeeze of lime. Delish! even better with some citron vodka and splash of St Germaine!

For every day I like cranberry lime or lemon lime,

                      1. re: foodieX2

I never even SAW ginger lemonade--is it no longer made? That sounds fab!

                        1. re: kattyeyes

It was summer limited edition. And no, I am not sharing! LOL.

i loved that flavor, but didn't realize it was limited til i could i longer find it! :(

my regular faves are the black cherry, the ruby red grapefruit and the vanilla.

                            1. re: hotoynoodle

Just tried the ruby red this weekend--YUM! If you like vanilla, you may also like butter rum and wasn't there an orange vanilla, too?

                              1. re: kattyeyes

the orange vanilla tastes too "chemically" to me. these winter flavors aren't stuff i would consume in their normal forms, so drinking them freaks me out, lol.

                                1. re: hotoynoodle

HA HA HA, butter rum especially screams the Life Savers Christmas book of joy or whatever the heck that was from childhood (remember?). I bought more of it because drinking a toasted marshmallow is amusing to me, but like you, I'm more partial to the fruity ones. They're really great!

            2. I'm so jealous. I lived in Vermont for two years and had easy access to Polar seltzer, my seltzer of choice. Now that I'm back on the West Coast, it is one of the things I miss about Vermont...

              1. I've tried eggnog, mint chocolate and vanilla pear. Of the three, only the vanilla pear is palatable in my opinion. The other two, especially the mint chocolate...are horrible mistakes...

                1. My faves are the mandarin and the ruby red grapefruit. Blueberry is good too, but not always available. I'm a little put off by vanilla flavored seltzer.

                  1. We like the Boston Cream Pie. No "sweeter" than the butter rum--to me, anyway. Nice over ice with some vodka. CHEERS!

+1 on this. i had it straight, and loved how the flavor lingers on the palate..

                    2. I hadn't even seen the winter flavors- will go check to see what's available around here. I like the black cherry seltzer very much. Makes good pancakes.

Of the Polar regular sodas, I do like the black cherry. Also the Orange Dry.

Pancakes? Talk to me about this, please. Guessing you swap some or all of the water for seltzer?

                        1. re: kattyeyes

Yep. The first time I tried it with some that was a little flat already, but then did it again with fresher. I used buttermilk pancake mix, about half seltzer I think. Haven't made pancakes at home for a year or so, but I remember thinking next time I'd like to try it with the mandarin flavor.

                      2. Happy summer (almost)! I finally tried the blueberry--quite nice. And has excellent mixing potential.

Where are the special edition summa flavas, I wonder? I haven't seen 'em, have you?

have seen them at hannaford's and market basket. scored the ginger/lemongrass only once, other trips that space on the shelf has been empty. :(

                          1. re: kattyeyes

Love the pink grapefruit, still love the ginger lemonade. Have not tried any of new cocktail ones.

                            1. re: foodieX2

Already with the ginger lemonade, eh?! I must look again. Thank you both! Meanwhile, do go blue. I think you'll like it.

I bought the ginger lemonade today.

                                The pomegranate sangria was good.

                                1. re: C. Hamster

Hey you guyyyyyyys! Just a heads up--the summer flavors, in my local Stop & Shop, anyway, were on display on a little center aisle "island" rather than on the regular shelves. The only summer flavor among the others was ginger lemonade, and there was only one. The sangria was nowhere in sight!

I did pick up cucumber melon, which is quite tasty and refreshing in this heat. Smells like melon, sorta tastes like strawberries (how is that?!). I likey. Will be on the lookout for other summer flavors.
