caterer with a conscience?

Hello hounds,

I'm putting together a holiday party for a not for profit organization and am looking for a caterer for the event. The budget is pretty slim- $700 for food for around 150 people. It only needs to be finger food. I'm preferably looking to accommodate a combo of all kinds of eaters (vegan, gluten free, and organic meat eaters). Can anyone recommend someone who might be willing to offer us a sliding scale??

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Do you know about this site, mentioned in an article in the current Edible Manhattan?

You can choose from a wealth of private chefs, many with impressive restaurant experience. Prices range from $20 to $200 per hour, per chef.

I don't know how formal it needs to be, or what other hounds would think - but have you considered Whole Foods? Some very nice appetizers on their catering menu, and they certainly cater to special diets. Prices I assume would be much more reasonable than a formal caterer. Just a thought.
