Anyone been there yet? We have a rare night out planned for Sunday. Got the sitter and tix to the new Bond and trying to decide on dinner. I only know one person who ate there and reviews were just meh. Howevr they went opening week which can be tough on any new place.

thanks!

  1. I went on Sunday night, it's been open now for two weeks I guess. We went in for some appetizers and beer. A couple in the party of six got burgers. They did a nice renovation of the previous renovation. It feels like an upscale sports bar. I like the atmosphere. The place was very busy for a Sunday night, I assume lots of people trying it out. The food was indeed meh. We had a couple of pizzas from the wood burning oven that were flabby and undercooked. The Margherita pizza sauce had a bitter taste and the clam with bechemel was a disaster of rubbery clams. The other apps were an onion soup that looked fine and salad that was pretty simple, I didn't try either, the eaters said they were "fine". One person got the burger and he said that was "fine" too. Menu said hand-cut fries, I'm not so sure. The service was a bit amateurish but for the type of place It didn't really bother me. On the other hand the Gastrpub moniker bothers me. I've been hearing pretty underwhelming reports from friends , and a recurring sentiment is that it's over priced for what it is. The prices didn't strike me as out of line, but for the area I guess they are at the top. I have a suspicion it's probably the drink prices. The guys at the bar next to us were leaving to go to the Alumni up the street, inferring the prices were too steep.

According to their FB page they are changing their menu this Friday (tomorrow) to better serve customer requests....FWIW. Also on FB they mention the Phantom Gourmet just filmed them and really like their food.....FWIW

PG? Well theres the kiss of death.

Thanks the report, sounds in line with my friends. Looks like we will be heading to Orta!

You may already know, but Jimmy Burke sold Orta, and recent reports are that it's not the same. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. I'd check around first before I went back. I really liked it when Burke was running it. Let us know if you go.
        Hope You Enjoy,

          Heard the same about Orta.

Hmmmm. I hadn't heard that but I just checked the website and sure enough:

"Named for a lake in the Piedmont region of Italy, Orta was founded by Chef Jimmy Burke and wife, Joanie Wilson. In 2012 the restaurant was bought by Chef Brett Williams and his wife, Cara, who will run the front of the house."

I made a reservation, glad they still accept reservations for two, always a plus. Will report back.

Great. Anxious to know, as we've always enjoyed the food there, even though the service could be a little spotty at times. Always fair prices as well. And, my favorite, free parking!!!
