Sushi/Asian on UES for date night

Mini girl Nov 7, 2012 06:50 AM

I'm looking for an early dinner before a show at the Apollo Theater. I'm thinking Amber or Sushi of Gari. any other suggestions? We're thinking about $50 per person before tax and tip. Thank you!

Sasabune is probably doable. I'm not a fan of their hot sushi rice, but the fish is always fresh. Sushi Gari cost me $250 for omakase last time I was there, So as UES Mayor said, $50 will get you apps only.

You don't have to get omakase. Gari offers a $25 and a $34 sushi set. This would be preferable to Amber which I don't think is very good.

Sasabune only offers omakase, right? That is definitely more than $50.

I actually think Inase is better than Gari for traditional sushi.

Sasabune is omakase only, and starts around $100/pp.

Gari has good sushi sets at various price levels, but the real treat is the omakase for sure, which can be anywhere from $150-250+ depending on how much you eat.

Inase is great, very traditional (I'd recommend sitting at the bar and ordering their "special" sushi set for $35). The miso marinated grilled squid is also very good, and large enough to share.

Amber I wouldn't go to at all, but hey, to each their own.
