Where's the cheapest place to buy dinosaur kale in NYC?

lalagirl Nov 5, 2012 05:08 PM

I'm just back from California, where the only real perks I enjoyed once I found myself unable to return home for days due to Sandy was the abundance of inexpensive kale. I can't seem to find a bunch here for less than $4. I'm especially seeking the dinosaur variety (aka black kale, tuscan kale, italian kale), with flatter, less bitter leaves.

Any real leads on where I can find it for less? Where and what price?

FreshDirect has dinosaur kale for $2.99 a bunch.

      Union Square Green Market.

W97th St. Greenmarket had a couple of farmers selling it. Usually $2.50 or $3 a large bunch.

I bought it at $3 or $5 for two bunches at the Tompkins Square Greenmarket on Sunday. I think it was from one of their regular vendors but they had combined with the Stuy Town one this week on account of Sandy.
