Looking for great dinner near PHX airport

nonlinear Nov 2, 2012 02:16 PM

I asked this question but it is buried in another thread, and I thought that maybe I would get some replies if I made a separate thread.

I will be dropping someone off at PDX at 7 pm on a Sunday night. We would like to get dinner beforehand. Can anyone recommend a good place that will be open on a Sunday evening at around 5:30 pm (but with no wait and not too busy)?

My "go-to" near the airport is Quiescence. Ditto hohokam's comment about calling ahead.

I'm not sure what kind of dining experience you're looking for or what direction you will be coming from, but I'll throw out a few different options that are open on Sundays and are within 10-15 minutes of the airport.

      Central Phoenix:

al Hana (inside Baiz Market): simple, well prepared Middle Eastern dishes in a very casual setting. no alcohol

Nobuo at Teeter House: high quality Japanese with modern and Western touches. beer, wine, and cocktails.

Durant's: old school upscale steak house. an Old Phoenix landmark. beer, wine, and cocktails.

Cafe Lalibela: very good Ethiopian in a casual space. beer and wine.

If you choose Lalibela, Durant's, or Nobuo, you might want to call ahead to reserve a table and have the booker make a note that you need to be out the door by 6:45. Pacing at al Hana will be determined largely by what dishes you order and how quickly you can eat them.

Mighty fine bar-b-que at Bill Johnson's Big Apple on Van Buren. Right beside the Airport and real easy to get into on a Sunday Evening.
