Chipotle in Central Square, Cambridge?

clandestine Nov 2, 2012 09:55 AM

Any idea when this is opening? Last I checked there was nothing on the front door except for a "not yet" sign... I'll be so glad to have a Mexican option that's not Picante right in Central Square.

It's open today! Problem solved. :-)

I am not mad when I have to eat a papas burrito from Picante.

Yup. That's what I enjoy at Picante. And I like that they put a handful of chips in the bag. Just need to remember to stop eating once I get full instead of forcing myself to finish.

Yeah, that is the one thing I'll sometimes order. It's not bad.

I started to find Picante tolerable when I learned to substitute pinto beans for their standard black beans.

Pretty sure it's open now. I am actually glad it's there. There's tons of great food in Kendall now, but I don't know of much that's super fast (though open to suggestions!). It'll be nice to have something to grab on my way home when I'm in a rush.

Whoops, I thought this was about the Kendall Sq. Chipotle, not the Central Sq. one. No idea about the Central one...

Yes not to be confused with the Harvard one either. I frequently wonder why is it Harvard, Central, and Kendall all have one but Inman doesn't?

Depending on where you are in Kendall you can always order take out from the sushi place or Za and pick it up when you are in a rush.

It's totally mcmexican, but in the realm of fast food it's one of the better ones.

Have you ever been to Picante? Sadder.

I had my first two chipotle experiences recently due to the new one in kendall. I had the same thing both times, barbacoa. Maybe it's just what I had but I was struck at how much the beef tasted like taco bell.

Mind you, I'm not nearly as anti-taco bell as I should be so this wasn't a bad thing. I was just struck at how much praise the place gets and yet if you had put it in a TB wrapper I'd just assume it was a slightly new item (i.e. same ingredients, different format)

Wish there was a Chipotle in southie, tough place to work when you have a craving for a burrito

Beantown Taquiera is only slightly further from central sq than Picante is.

Good to know! There's also the lovely Olecito if I have the time to walk to Inman, but my workplace is right in Central - like 1 minute from Picante. I'll check out Beantown Taqueria on my own time, but it's a 10-15 minute walk from my job.

There's always the #1 bus, which with the bus tracking available is a lot more convenient than it used to be.

I'll grant you though, based on your description I used to live within a 1-1.5 blocks of your workplace and I rarely would go there (yet I don't mind the slightly longer walk from my workplace, go figure).

I always disliked Picante, it'd range a bit but it never even entered the 'neutral' phase.

I hear ya, but I think it would feel a little too indulgent to take the bus to lunch :-)
