Is it just me or is iceberg lettuce a great accompaniment to TexMex Dishes

Crunchy and delicious. Anyone else prefer iceberg lettuce in TexMex dishes (taco salad, tacos, burritos)? Do you serve it cold or room temperature?

  1. It's my "go to" lettuce for all Mexican cuisine where lettuce is included.
    It shreds beautifully, the leaves fold easily, it's crisp with great flavor.

    1. Love it! I use it shredded in tacos, taco salads etc and also use the large leaves whole for a mexican version of lettuce wraps. So crisp and refreshing.

        just wondering whether you serve it straight out of the fridge or warmed up a bit to room temperature? i love the crisp of the cold lettuce, but it seems the tacos then get cold as well.

          I separate the leaves, wash and dry them and leave them out while I finish the final prep. They do warm up a bit but are still nice and crisp. I like the juxtaposition between the warm filling and the crisp lettuce.

      2. It's so nice to know that I'm not the only one who likes the crunch and taste of iceberg!
        I've tried Romaine and other leaf lettuces on an egg salad or tuna salad sandwich, but they just don't do it for me! I like my lettuce cold and crunchy there.
        For salads, I'm happy with a mix of any kind, but in sandwiches, tacos and gyros, it's iceberg for this gal. And in my cucumber - sour cream salad. The innermost crispiest leaves go in that one.

        1. It's what I will serve to others, but I - I really dislike lettuce mixed with hot foods. Ha. So, I never put lettuce in a burrito, on tacos, etc. It's one of my weird food issues ;) Oh well.

          In general though, I like a good iceberg wedge salad every now and then! It's cheap and keeps well...
