Ground Beef Burritos?

Hi. My friend is looking for a ground beef burrito. Not just any ground beef but seasoned ground beef. It seems that most places that serve ground beef do not season it as they do carne asada. Anyone have any recs for places around Pasadena? Thanks in advance!

  1. Del Taco and Taco Lita (in Arcadia)?

Yeah, I already tried the Del Taco/Taco Bell, but the answer was Hell No. I cannot remember detecting any flavor in the meat from Taco Lita (but then I have only had the tacos). Maybe Taco Treat - I prefer their tacos over Taco Lita. Thanks,

Well, if you are going to Taco Treat, you may as well order their deep-fried burrito.

Yup, I usually get those (they are my favorite thing there) and their tacos. Their taquitos are pretty good, too.

      2. I DO NOT VOUCH FOR THIS PLACE:

        http://www.erniesnoho.com/

They have ground beef tacos and this is a common gringo mex place that's recommended on this board for ground beef tacos. I perused the menu and it seems that they distinguish between ground beef (aka beef) and carne asada (aka steak

        )

I would call first and confirm.

        1. El Coyote on Beverly Blvd has one. They changed it a little adding more spices. Taco Bell.

          1. My DH had a ground beef burrito with red sauce and melted cheese at Casa Vega..
It's been awhile and he asked if they could make him a burrito since they have the ground beef tacos on the menu.
He said it was one of the best burritos.
I love this place...call to make sure.

Is Casa Vega still dark like a cave??

            2. Awesome! Thank you, everyone! I will let him know. He also used the words "old school". Thanks again!

              1. I really really really liked Bobby's Place on Walnut in Pasadena.

                  1. There's a place in silver lake/ echo park called Rick's drive thru-by dodger stadium and the 5 freeway. They season they're ground beef. I've only had their crunchy taco (when I was on a crunchy taco hunt), but I'm sure they make burritos with that meat.

Second the burrito at El Coyote. Had one two nights ago. Also, Henry's Tacos on Moorpark and Colfax.

The day Henry's closes is the day I stop going to the Valley for gringo tacos and burritos. Oh , wait, Casa Vega...

Henry's Tacos is possibly the very very very best for ground beef tacos and burritos. Henry's reminds me of a gourmet version of Taco Bell, for what it's worth.

moorpark and TUJUNGA, not moorpark and colfax, correct?

                                  damn, i always forget.

yeah, tujunga sounds right, in case i posted an incorrect address above.

                      1. The only place I know that does a great ground beef burrito is Plancha Tacos - http://planchatacos.com/ Unfortunately they're on 3rd street in Beverly Hills. I'm a big fan and in addition to a great ground beef burrito in addition to a tiger shrimp taco that is really phenomenal.

                        1. Lucy's El Adobe would probably make you one too.

                          1. WOW! I read all these responses and learned something. I thought the use of ground beef was limited to the taco bell/del taco places and no self-respecting mex place would serve anything but "unground" meat.

Thanks, Servorg. I had forgotten about picadillo, mainly because the only place I've ever seen it is Ramona's frozen burritos.

Our favorite "gringo" Mex-Am place, Don Antonio's http://www.donantoniosla.com/ does picadillo tacos and a chimichanga. The funny thing is they don't offer a picadillo burrito. I am particularly fond of their quesadilla filled with chorizo.

                                  1. re: Servorg

They won't make a picadillo burrito for you? That's weird.

                                2. re: Servorg

Likewise, Servorg. I never knew that picadillo was, essentially, ground beef. I (or someone close to me) will be posting quite a bit about ground beef as an underappreciated burrito protien soon.

                              2. Thanks, everyone. As I already knew, you guys are awesome! ;-) Now, go vote!
