Whiskey Cake - Plano - LOVED it

  • 2

Following several visits over a few weeks last month, I have to create a thread lauding this recent discovery - coming from Boston to visit Richardson / Plano area, it's been tough to readily find a spot we LOVE without a drive into Dallas. It was recommended by bartender supreme Omar at Cedars Social in downtown Dallas (and we profusely thank him for that, along with his bartending and hospitality perfection late one Sunday evening).

Whiskey Cake is huge, noisy, and bustling pretty much all the time, yet the service was always attentive and friendly, from the hostess to the servers to the bartenders. Clearly a lot of care and pride goes into everything served here. The prices are fair and generally GREAT values given the premium ingredients and flavors.

The food was uniformly terrific - highlights include fried green tomatoes with remoulade (almost as good as my gold standard version at Upperline in NOLA!), a lunch salad of greens, nuts, fruit, and cheeses that was huge, beautiful, and delicious, the redfish lettuce wraps at lunch, and the eponymous dessert - which is huge, rich, sticky, decadent deliciousness. All of the cocktails tried, both from the menu specials as well as classics (eg Sazerac, Old Fashioned, etc.) were perfectly crafted and balanced.

The menu item that blew us away and will have us back for another with every visit to the Metroplex was the OMG Burger - a huge, perfectly-cooked chunk of freshly-ground brisket topped with a huge, perfect lightly-breaded ONION ring, amazing MUSHROOMS,along with at least two types of cheese and a sauce of pure GOODNESS. It was really messy but every bite was worth the stains and spills that resulted - wow!

I love everything about this place, including the fact that it's in Plano in a huge parking lot right next to the Tollway - much easier to access frequently than heading into Dallas.
