Where to have our corporate holiday party?

lala014 Oct 31, 2012 06:33 AM

Last year my company had their holiday party at Mistral. I was not working at the company then, and I have never been to that restaurant but I understand it is very nice. I am responsible this year for the holiday party, and since I have nothing to compare to previous ones except for the name of the place, what do you suggest? I want to keep it up to par with Mistral. Or if you can suggest something in the $35-$60 a plate per person that would be great. There are about 200-250 employees.

We do our party after the holidays, in late January, because we are too busy during the holiday season. So I am not worried about scheduling conflicts with restaurants. It needs to be in the Boston area.

A nice option might be Davio's which I would think could accomodate that #.

200-250 employees is quite a few though, other CH folks might have better suggestions

200-250 would probably require renting out the whole restaurant. I dont know of any rooms that big.

I am having a hard time believing that you partied at Mistral for $35-60 pp. We are throwing a lunch at Grill 23 next month and it's not fancy but $75pp.

Sorry, I meant it to be something up to par with Mistral and also something in the $35-$60pp range.. as in two different suggestions. Sorry for the misunderstanding. But yes I do think we would need a whole restaurant.

I assume the OP's event will involve alcohol, or is it a cash bar (or a separate alcohol budget)..

If you are creative, don't discount venues like the Aquarium, the Gardner, or the Museum of Science.. although those aren't cheap by any means either.

OMG the Aquarium! Such a good idea! I will look into that for sure. Thanks

We've had holiday parties at both the Aquarium and Museum of Science. Both were fun but the Aquarium was great. I was not the planner; so can't help with the logistics but it was really a great time

Our company holiday party was at the Aquarium last year (also 200-odd people plus guests). It was a fun spot, although the layout is not ideal (the people-accessible areas are mostly hallways rather than large spaces, which made both socializing and eating a little awkward).

the ica is also a cool spot for large groups.

Don't know the cost, but BF's company is around that size and has successfully had holiday parties at the House of Blues.

Diff. style (of course) from Mistral, but coworker attended event there when she worked in Malden and said "thumbs up"

You might consider Les Zygomates. They could probably match your $/person. Plus they have several party rooms and could likely accomodate your group size.

we did a gathering at Les Zyg. it was fine but food and wine were $100/person. (3 courses but not a lot of heavy drinkers). I've done teh aquarium thing and enjoyed it. only apps and wine/beer but it worked well especially the view. The spiral walk helped people mingle.

Hmm.....still not clear if OP was budgeting just for food or was including beverages.

Sorry.. most likely Cash bar. Of course will take recomendations from you guys/girls about dinners with drinks included and I will look into that as well. Someone suggested to me the Seaport Hotel? Never been, what are your thoughts on that?

I'm wondering whether you could rent the waterfront Daily Catch for such an event in your price point: good Sicilian food and a great location.

Whoops - the Daily Catch can only do 100 inside (250 in good weather when they can use the deck and patio)

seaport hotel food is totally meh. not at all in the same ballpark as mistral or even les zyg.

I've been to parties at the big Museum of Fine Arts Restaurant, quite wonderful, and I was recently informed about a Brazilian all you can eat buffet at the Westin near Copley place. If I remember correctly the Westin is between $30 and $60/plate.

What about the Colonial Inn in Concord?

I have a very soft spot in my heart for the Colonial Inn, having spent both my wedding eve and my wedding night there, but they do NOT have worthwhile food.

Yeah thats what the hard part about this is, the amount of people. I can think of many nice places I would like to have this party at, but none of them can accommodate 200-250people

I've been to lovely events at the Sonesta in Cambridge, both at Dantes and catered by Dantes. You might give them a call to see how many they can accommodate. It's a pretty location too.

My uncle actually owns Dante's (Uncle Dante) so I didn't really want to bring my co-workers and bosses there and make it seem like ''oh hey this is my uncles restaurant' But you are right about the location being great.

We all have our comfort zone re: family engagement. I think Dante's and the Sonesta is a good enough venue that I'd just tell my boss about the family ties, see if he or she is comfortable, take them to a "tryout" dinner, and give my uncle the business! Good luck in your search.
