Ceviche in Miami

I'm visiting my niece at the University of Miami and she would like ceviche for lunch tomorrow. We are looking for a simple place, hopefully near the school, but in any case not too far away.

  1. Near UM, Jaguar in Coconut Grove would fit the bill. Also Francesco in Coral Gables.

      Thanks much.

What would you say are the differences between the two.

Francesco is a pretty traditional Peruvian place and the ceviche options are straightforward: choice of fish, shrimp and/or shellfish in a traditional ceviche marinade, with aji amarillo or rocoto chile sauce. Jaguar is more pan-Latin and has several different styles, some less traditional (i.e. some with more Mexican, Japanese flavors). Jaguar offers sampler size "spoons" so you can try several at once.

My Ceviche is great but it is not close to the University of Miami.

The atmosphere of both places is also much different. Francesco more dark and intimate while Jaguar is more vibrant and social. Both have great ceviche but like Frod said, Jaguar is a bit less traditional and more funky. The spoons are great though.

I'm a big fan of Jaguar also.....maybe a bit less tradtional but they they have all the traditional favorites and the funky too.....Great vibe there....
