What happened to Pain Perdu???

My S.O went in to Pain Perdu yesterday to buy cheese crackers and a tarte tatin for a dinner party and the place was totally changed -- the unfamiliar and rather surly woman behind the counter says they don't make pastries anymore, just croissants and "a bit of coffee". We think it's under new ownership - can anyone confirm??? I am holding out hope that they were just having a bad day ... very stressed about this whole Pain Perdu situation especially with the holidays coming up (they're my go to place for hostess gifts and desserts).

  1. Omg I hope that is not true. No one made a better Meille Feuille in Toronto than they did.

      No, there is no change in ownership. I believe that they cut back on their range pf pastries recently. The superb millefeuille and gateau basque are still there. And they still offer the best quiche in Toronto. I have not experienced any change in quality.

        oh good. Reminds me I haven't had one of their Meille Feuille's in about 4 mos and need to go by and get one again.

          I had their Gateau Basque recently for a birthday desert and it was excellent. However, not as good as the Frangipane ( sp?) at Dupont East of Spadina.
