Any thoughts on this? This is for a dinner in the coming week. The food is the top priority. Thanks!

I'm a huge fan of Sierra Mar at Post Ranch Inn..
I like lunch to enjoy the fantastic views..if you do go for dinner at Sierra Mar, go before it gets dark.
Are you staying close by? It's a long, winding haul from Carmel, especially after drinks and wine/dinner.
Post Ranch is exquisite to stay but it is pricey...seen some deals on expedia for Ventana for under $300.

Please report back and have a lovely time!

I second Chica de Playa's tip about getting there before dark. That holds true for either restaurant but especially Sierra Mar, because that resto has a particularly lofty perch above the ocean and once it's dark, there just isn't much to see except for the occasional ship out on the ocean. Also, if you go to Post, arrive early so as to have a chance to tour the grounds and walk the gardens. Beautiful.

We also always like to have a drink and a snack out on the deck at Napenthe. Really nice to be able to walk around that deck for almost 360 degree views.

The food and service at Sierra Mar are top notch! :)

My wife and I have been going to Big Sur at least once a year for the past 25 years. We were married there, had our reception at the MB Aquarium, and Honey-mooned at Ventana. Ventana definitely is a special place for both of us. On our recent trip in August we dined at both Ventana and Post Ranch. Both were fantastic and delicious meals, but I have to say that Sierra Mar is just a notch above, especially in terms of the ambiance and setting. The food is wonderful at both places, but Sierra Mar is just a super special and unique dining experience from beginning to end.

After eating there, we're dying to stay there.
