Manhattan Fruit Exchange and Eataly both have fantastic selections of mushrooms. you can usually find honshemiji, maitake, lobster, oyster, trumpet, and other more common varities at either store.

Not sure if this applies, but I just read this from the New Amsterdam Market's newsletter...

      "NEW AMSTERDAM MARKET
      Sunday, October 28
      11:00AM to 4:00PM
      New Amsterdam Market
South Street between Beekman Street & Peck Slip

This Sunday, Nova Kim and Les Hook of Wild Food Gatherers Guild return to New Amsterdam Market with another bounty of wild Vermont mushrooms, a recent sampling of which were featured in New York Magazine. And Maggie Nesciur of Flying Fox will also bring a freshly-picked special from Vermont: medlars, an unusual apple-like fruit rarely found in markets that require ripening by "bletting," much like persimmons. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about these atypical varieties of wild foods and how to prepare them!"

Wild mushrooms taste so much better than sawdust raised mushrooms, thanks for posting.

There are several Greenmarket vendors who sell mushrooms. At Union Square yesterday, Violet Hill had chanterelles, and Madura had about ten different varieties. All local, of course, which may not be exactly what you want.
