Wood & Vine - Short Review

  • 1

My SO and I had a very good pre-theater dinner at Wood & Vine in Hollywood last night.

The Chicken and Waffles I had heard so much about turned out to be the weakest dish. The waffle was tasty, however the chicken, though nicely fried, lacked seasoning. We had the Chef’s Choice selection of Cheese & Charcuterie. This consisted of smoked salmon and the Country Pate. The 3 cheeses were a blue and 2 others of which I didn’t catch the names. One was very pungent, a little too much so for my taste, so I liked 2 of the 3 cheeses. This platter came with baguette slices, grainy mustard, lightly pickled carrots and cauliflower, and a jam I didn’t catch the name of but tasted like a nice honey. The Pork Sliders, which came on biscuits, were delicious. These large sliders contained thinly sliced pork and arugula. Next up was the Pan-Seared Scallops, another winner. The sweet scallops were cooked perfectly. Lastly we had the Profiteroles, which were filled with vanilla ice cream and all topped with a very good chocolate sauce.

The service started out great, however there was a bit of a lull before our last savory dish, the scallops. Our waiter seemed to have disappeared, however the waitress who was serving the tables flanking us inquired with us a couple times, finally asking which dish we were waiting for, and then brought it out to us in short order. She also took care of our dessert order. We had given ourselves plenty of time for dinning before curtain time, so we were OK time wise. We sat outside, grateful for the heat lamps, since it was a chilly evening. Noise level was moderate, we could comfortable carry on a conversation. The tab came to about $76 before tax and tip, no drinks.

I would come here again if I were in the neighborhood. Pantages is right across the street. Also, we arrived a little early for our reservation, so we hung out at the W Hotel lobby which is next door, until it was time. It’s a nice comfortable space to relax in.

  1. We (my partner and I) went there for the first time last wk. Had the heirloom salad (excellent), pork BBQ sliders (good, but a bit too much like pastrami w/ BBQ sauce), a side of the biscuits (fantastic), and the peach cobbler (a little too heavily spiced for my taste, although my partner enjoyed it). I think our total bill was similar to yours.

We were seated at the bar right away and had no service issues. Agree that it the noise level was moderate; so nice to be at a newly up restaurant where you can have a conversation!
