Bash Burger at B&B Winepub (Burger & Barrel)

Stopped in for a quick lunch at the bar. The bartender was really nice, efficient, and service was overall very friendly.

I loved the Bash Burger! A wonderful griddled Pat La Frieda patty served with a caramelized onion & bacon jam, pickles, American cheese, and special sauce (combination of mayo, ketchup, etc. a la Shake Shack), with two onion rings on top (because why not?), and typically a giant pile of fries (I abstained). The meat was of very high quality. Cooked to temperature. Nice sear. The patties are a bit aggressively seasoned. I didn't mind, but if you are sensitive to salt, you should definitely mention it. The char on the patty, plus the salt, and the sauce, really did remind me of Shake Shack.

The bacon and onion jam was awesome. The idea was apparently inspired by the chef's love for bacon and onion cheeseburgers, but his irritation at trying to get a little bit of both in each bite. Hence the mixture of chopped up bacon and caramelized onions, as a "jam," even though there's no fruit and no sugar in the topping. I thought this jam was genius!

I couldn't bring myself to order the white truffle burger (with truffle shavings and truffle aioli), but maybe next time.

  1. Personally I liked the mushroom & gruyere even better. Thought the Bash was too pickle-y and not bacon-y enough (maybe bad execution that night?). Both very good though.

    2. I never figured you for a burger kind of gal. Glad to hear you loved the burger. Its one of my top three.

        Hahah, I have definitely raved about burgers on CH before!

        I love Shake Shack and that's usually my go-to because I work near the MSP one. But that gets boring to post about over and over.

        Recently revitalized my love of sautéed onions on a burger, so this burger really scratches an itch for me. I've had good ones at Market Table and Landmarc as well. OK ones at Bareburger and 5 Napkin. I tend to prefer a fatty patty with a good sear and a fair amount of seasoning.

          The burger at Landmarc is fantastic. I have recently got into Crumbled Blue Cheese on my burgers. What a great flavor combo with a good quality burger.
          Also, I no longer use ketchup and consistently go with dijon mustard now.
          Working near MSP, do you ever go to Mollys for a burger and onion rings?

            No, but I've heard good things about it. I'm lazy sometimes and go to Schnipper's instead. :)
