SweetPea Oct 21, 2012 01:48 PM

Rats, the Esmeralda isn't open for lunch on Wednesday. Any suggestions? Or even Off of 26 south, like Hendersonville?

Thanks, carolinadawg. I'd located the H'ville thread and pretty much decided that was the direction I needed to head for food. I'm eyeing Never Blue and the hours are in my favor for this little road trip. That or Flat Rock Bakery. Medina's Village Bistro in Chimney Rock looked like a possibility, but I think I'd rather go on to H'ville.

I'd pick Flat Rock! Their pizza is amazing!

Flat Rock Bakery or West First (if the hours work for you) are worlds and worlds better than Never Blue. No question.

Medina's Village Bistro? thanks....I'll have to check that out. Have you been to Esmerelda before? How was it? thanks.

Really?? Thanks - Flat Rock's hours work, but not so much West First 's unless I'm at Chimney Rock longer and move into early dinner mode. I've not been to Esmerelda since another lifetime (pre-fire) but was sort of wanting to see what is was like now and have that nostalgic experience of memorable times there.

I recommend the goat pizza if you like a non-traditional pizza, or the classic margherita otherwise. Also, the hummus sandwich on thier ciabatta is very good , espeically if they are doing the southwest version. The bakery salad w/ goat cheese, cranberries, and pecans and balsamic dressing is an excellent example of that now-standard salad. Take home some pastry, I recommend the scones particularly or any of the viennoiserie-type offerings. Muffins also good. cookies my least favorite. And of course the breads are spectacular, ciabiatta, sourdough, cheese, and if they have the pesto fougasse...do yourself a favor.

Can you tell I go there a lot?

OK, the goat pizza was out of this world. I was mistaken about the hours and got there 6 minutes till closing. So, a special thanks to Clinton who kindly agreed to make me the one last pizza of the day....... his wedding day. And the pumpkin ginger scone is perfect with this cup of tea.
