  1. Not quite as good as it was years ago but I still have a craving for Mrs. Knott's Fried Chicken and biscuits. And don't forget their boysenberry pie too.

        1. re: SIMIHOUND

+1 for Simi's rec for Albertson's fried chicken. Even the downtown Long Beach site off 4th -- as understaffed as it is -- offers a great golden bird.

Another recommendation: Stater Brothers. Both delis at the La Habra and the Placentia (off Imperial) stores make very good fried chicken, with flavorful and crispy breading. And Stater's $5.99-for-eight-pieces deal is pretty darned tasty, too.

      1. Buttermilk fried chicken at Memphis in Santa Ana.

        1. Hard to compare different types like Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner to BBQ Chicken's "Olive Crispy Chicken" (Diamond Jamboree shopping center) but I love both, it just depends on the mood I'm in.

I do have to say Memphis is good, but not cheap and for cheap, Albertson's is good.

          1. The Chicken Box in La Habra has good broasted chicken cooked to order. Call 1/2 hour in advance.
