The Chicken Box in La Habra has good broasted chicken cooked to order. Call 1/2 hour in advance.

Hard to compare different types like Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner to BBQ Chicken's "Olive Crispy Chicken" (Diamond Jamboree shopping center) but I love both, it just depends on the mood I'm in.

I do have to say Memphis is good, but not cheap and for cheap, Albertson's is good.

              Try Albertsons. Really.

+1 for Simi's rec for Albertson's fried chicken. Even the downtown Long Beach site off 4th -- as understaffed as it is -- offers a great golden bird.

Another recommendation: Stater Brothers. Both delis at the La Habra and the Placentia (off Imperial) stores make very good fried chicken, with flavorful and crispy breading. And Stater's $5.99-for-eight-pieces deal is pretty darned tasty, too.

Not quite as good as it was years ago but I still have a craving for Mrs. Knott's Fried Chicken and biscuits. And don't forget their boysenberry pie too.
