Recommendations for a 1st Date @ Bloor and Avenue

kwass Oct 18, 2012 10:18 AM

My brother has asked me to help him find a great restaurant to take someone on a 1st date in the Bloor/Avenue area. I suggested Joso's, but I was wondering if any of you could help me with some additional suggestions.

Museum Tavern's been getting love. Had some snacks there and thought they were good. Drinks look intriguing. A revisit, for a better evaluation, for me.

They can go wander the ROM later for shiggles if the dinner is good! Depends on timing though.

I just looked @ the menu. It looks nice. What's the ambiance like?

I actually looked @ the review on BlogTo which showed pictures. But thank you so much jlunar!

There's also an active thread on this place which I looked @. Thank you again for the rec. It looks really good.

Does he have a car? What bout Auberge Du Pommier? Maybe a little fancy for a first date, and quite a bit aways from Bloor and Yonge... but just a suggestion.

He does have a car. But that might be a little too fancy for a 1st date. I'll still suggest it to him though. Thank you!

How old's your brother? An 18 year old would have a different set of expectations than a 38 year old.

A neat solution might be the Roof Lounge at the Park Hyatt, just a scootch north of Bloor 'n Ave. The lounge is old-school elegant, but casual, and the head bartender there mixes a mean cocktail. If the date calls for it, it's a neat location.

He's 41. Would you suggest the Roof Lounge @ the Park Hyatt for drinks after dinner, or dinner as well?

Either or both. Pop in for a sec to scope out the place. While not uber-expensive, it's certainly not as cheap as a night out at the local, but it definitely makes an impression.

Sounds great! I've already passed it along.

I think Pangea would be great. Would not think the decor at Joso's would be good for first date, but then again I could be wrong.

Funny that you say that. I did have some qualms about the decor @ Joso's for a 1st date.

Pangea is a great suggestion though. Thank You!

if they go to pangaea, tell them to get the donuts. they're really nicely done, especially with the orange shake they're served with.

museum tavern is also quite nice, and a bit more casual.

i can't recall if c5 in the ROM does dinner. however a recent lunch there left me w/the impression that the cooking has gone downhill a bit, perhaps on account of the changeup in the kitchen. still, it's a beautiful room.

l'unita is just up avenue a bit, could be another option.

I will definitely pass that information on about the donuts. He would love that!

            Fieramosca?
            Opus?

            +1 more for Pangaea

Also very good suggestions. Why do I always forget about those places?
