Soup dumplings (XLB) - Shanghai Cafe Deluxe or Shanghai Asian Manor?

pamiam Oct 17, 2012 10:41 PM

Hi guys -- my mom's coming to town this weekend, and the XLB situation in Chicago is not great, so she's looking forward to trying some dumplings that actually have soup left in them. Googling suggests these two options are probably best. I also get the impression that Shanghai Asian Manor has great scallion pancakes, and Shanghai Cafe Deluxe has great Shanghai pan-fried noodles. Assuming that we would get these three dishes (and perhaps something else, if someone strongly recommends it), which one would you go to? First priority is great XLB, but if they're really close, other dishes could tip the scales.

I like Shanghai Cuisine on Bayard and Mulberry a lot -- I haven't seen it mentioned yet during these discussions.

I don't know how I missed that thread. I was up in NYC in August and one of the things at the top of my list was finding good soup dumplings. I did a lot of searching around and decided to try Old Sichuan on Bayard. OMG. We got the pork. They were so incredibly good that we ordered more (and we already had a LOT of food). We actually went back down there the next day for more.

Hi MVNYC - I prefer 456 and Shanghai Heping's XLB at the moment. I've not been to Shanghai Deluxe Café in awhile.
