trip report (elliots, szechuan noodle, six-seven)
At Elliots, we enjoyed 6 or 7 types of WA oysters, small and medium size mostly, but a big variety in shell size, thickness and of course taste. There were about 15 or so other types we didn't try. I would recommend this place for vistors because of the location right on the pier near the Pike place market and because of the freshness and variety of the oysters. The crab and oysters rockafeller (using too big oysters) were just so-so, but hard to mess up such fresh local oysters when plain or with cocktail/tabasco. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the knowledge of the bartender regarding the oysters and beverages available.
We also tried Szechuan Noodle in china town on 8th avenue and they had a limited menu of homemade dumplings, potstickers and noodles apparently made by the mother/grandmother team that runs the place. These were delish and it was refreshing that everything on the menu was less than 7 dollars. We feasted for $28. I would certainly recommend this spot.
We also had breakfast at the Edgewater/six-seven, where we stayed. This was just OK. The crab and spinach benedict on potato pancakes was amazing -- fresh tasting crab and eggs cooked perfectly. The sausages looked promising on the outside but were mushy and weird inside. The pancakes my brother had were too heavy and so-so, and the service extremely slow (almost an hour from sitting to eating). The view however with the seagulls and the water was relaxing in the morning and the ocean smells matched up well with the coffee. If you stay at the hotel and want to eat there, make a reservation as it was extremely crowded which was unexpected for guests.
