Hi,

Anyone know where I can buy this spice in Brooklyn Fort Greene Area? Willing to travel to Park Slope, Carroll Garden etc. Shipping cost too much online and I need it ASAP.

THX!

  1. what do you mean by portuguese allspice? do you mean this http://www.famousfoods.com/tepopoal12...

or do you mean simply the spice allspice.
it looks to me that its a basic spice blend like quatre epices - see crude recipe attached.

I think you could do worse than just mixing ground spices in the proportions she recommends.

In specific answer to your question, I dont know any place in Brooklyn that sells this product - I have never seen it. or really any portuguese products sold here. If you want a genuine portuguese product and not mix your own as suggested above, you could do worse than to get on the PATH and go over to the big Seabras supermarket in Newark Ironbound.

Yes! It's the temperos brand I was looking for but looks like the recipe you sent could work too. I'm going to try it.

Thanks for sending it to me!

I tried to quiz a portuguese friend about this but she said they dont use spice blends in her family and she was not familiar. My question to you would be whether your recipe just wants the 4 spice mix or if its calling for the tempreros product, in which case you would want to add in paprika and other ingredients listed on the label as well.

This is actually from my MIL's recipe and when I asked what portuguese AS was she showed me the temperos bottle.

I've never heard of this either. It looks intriguing, though. What are you using it in?

            It's for a scallop dish. :)
