White wine search in Napa/Sonoma (need help)

Phillipo Oct 16, 2012 07:42 PM

We are making a long weekend trip (3-4 days) to California next Spring in search of new white wines (mostly Chardonnay). Looking for recommendations for regions to stay that will give us the best options for the most white wines. Chard - Prefer low residual sugar when we can find it, and yes buttery (not caramel-y), definitely like the oaky flavor.
We will also be looking for some non dessert white wines as well.

    Chardonnays all over.

A favorite on the buttery side is Alpha Omega's Chardonnay. On the more classic, but still Californian side, I like Chateau Montelena as a reliable, though granted, slightly overpriced option.

Stonestreet's chardonnays are round and nice, their grounds are great too
Capture seems to be going some good stuff (appt only)
Robert Young has a good chardonnay.

You might get more responses if you post this on the San Francisco Bay Area board.

So many yummy Chardonnays, especially (imho) in the Russian River area of Sonoma. My favorites are from Sonoma-Cutrer.

My favorite Napa chardonnay is from Trefethen. St Supery has a wonderful unoaked chardonnay...

Please research the old threads on this. Lots of good info on white wines in Napa Valley and Sonoma. Google often is better for searches than Chowhound. Be specific in your search, for example:
