Pre-Theater Dinner Options

Heading to the theater next week (800 S. Broad St) and wondering if there are particular restaurants that cater to that crowd with unique menus. If not, we'd consider a Gastropub that's at least as good at the food as it is the beer. Any suggestions?

We'd like to keep the bill within reason if at all possible.

Are you sure the address is 800 S. Broad -- that's Broad & Catherine, removed from the other theaters and not very close to the restaurants with pre-theater menus or other places mentioned in the thread. Tashan is on that corner, for upscale Indian fusion though I don't think there is a pre-theater menu and it is pricy. You are only a few blocks from The Cambridge gastropub at 15th & South. I've only eaten a couple appetizers which I liked a lot, can't vouch for the rest of the menu.

Actually near the theaters right on Broad there is Perch Pub gastropub but the food is nothing special. In that area I prefer Jose Pistola's or Good Dog for pub food, but neither of those hit it out of the park either. The stuffed burger, fries, and cheesesteak empanadas at Good Dog are very good though, as are the nachos at Jose Pistola's. Pistola's has the best beer list of the bunch, followed by Perch.

You're right Barry. It's actually 480 S. Broad. Thanks for pointing that out. I'd be driving around all over looking for the place.

As for my "within reason" comment, I was thinking under 40pp (pre-bar bill). So does generate any other ideas? We've both been to Estia and enjoyed it a lot but was hoping to try something new. And I think I might be hard-pressed to keep Tashan within my price point.

You are very close to Amis, at 13th and Waverly. Excellent food - it's Marc Vetri's casual place.

Not sure exactly where 800 S Broad St but Estia at Broad and Locust does a decent pre-theater with a Greek inspired menu.

Estia is also a favorite of mine but it is pricey.
I suggest Branzino or Russet.

Estia has a prix fix pre theatre menu that is not a bad deal if you like the menu. It does not of course include the special imported fish.

Actually Estia's $30 menu has really good fish on it. It's not the imported stuff?

There's always a fish dish on it, but it's not the same as the stuff they sell a la carte by the pound. Might be day-old of that or something, and it is good, but it's not the same.

What is "within reason" exactly?

Far and away my favorite place around there is Sbraga, it's $49 per person for the 4-course prix fixe dinner and an extra $35 per person for the beverage pairings if you want to do them.
