Bringing foie gras into CA

Can I bring foie gras that I purchase out of state into CA on a plane either packed, or hand carried in a cooler? It will be for my consumption, and will not be sold. If so, is there a "limit"? TIA.

    The law doesn't address personal transportation.

      State law cannot interfere with interstate commerce. I suspect that it can only regulate local businesses, so if you bring it in for your own consumption there would be no way a state law would hold up in court.

        It should be fine as long as you don't sell it.

          Yes you can. It is on D'artagnan's website that you can bring in the fresh foie gras to CA...just can't sell it.

              DEA is federal, the feds are not going to do anything. Creating a state law is the state pandering to animal rights activists.... it should be a federal law if you feel it is justified, since it affects interstate commerce (which is constitutionally a federal power to regulate).

                  Did you take it that I was offended? Hmmm, have that problem sometimes :o Maybe it is just because I get annoyed at the general public in Canada and United States not having a proper understanding of Federal vs State/Provincial responsibilities/jurisdiction. It leads each level to duplicate what the other is doing and in the end only causes a mess and waste of money. Now-a-days businesses have to deal with so many different levels of government regulating the same things in different ways when it should just be streamlined.

                  I don't have a duck in the fight since if I have have anything I just make my own chicken liver pate :p

                    well, you seem to feel you needed to explain the DEA to me...so yeah, I wasn't sure where you were going with that comment.

                    chicken liver pate won't get you 5-10 either :)
