Need help- after 17 years, my boyfriend and I have gotten engaged. We're planning on keeping it very low key- courthouse and then a wonderful dinner with both of our 20 year old foodies (his daughter, my son) We would like a special place with great food, not too stuffy.
Thanks for your help!

EMP will be the most special (but not low-key) to celebrate. The NoMad might be too casual. I think Tocqueville would be perfect for a low-key celebration; I had a lovely dinner there recently; food, service & decor were excellent. I haven't been to Minetta Tavern, Marea, Mailino or The Breslin. Congratulations!

When is this meal? Some of the restaurants you mention book up very quickly.

The Breslin doesn't take reservations, BTW. It's also pretty loud.

For Minetta Tavern, you might have trouble getting a table during primetime. Plus, it's pretty loud and a little cramped. Perhaps not special enough for this occasion.

The wedding will be over Xmas break when the kids are home from college.

I would choose Tocqueville. Great food, gorgeous space, not stuffy,
