Hudson Valley Wedding Caterer Recommendations
I've seen a few posts on this topic but nothing that seemed super-comprehensive and recent. We're hoping to get married next summer at a farm in Hudson NY, and I wondered if anyone has a local caterer they love to recommend. It would be ideal to find a caterer who can also help with table/chair/linen rentals and do some event coordinating since we're not local. I don't think our budget is too tight for the area--around $100 per person for a seated dinner without alcohol, which we'd bring in ourselves. (And if we can do it for less that'd be great, too!) We don't want to do a buffet (180 people seems like asking for long lines), great food at the cocktail hour is a priority, and farm-to-table would be nice, but otherwise we're open to lots of different things, from super-elegant to more casual.
I've been on tons of wedding sites, but nothing has stood out yet, and Chowhound has never failed me before... Thanks so much!
We just got married this past May in Beacon at Mount Gulian using Bridge Creek Catering from New Paltz. Phil & Justine who are married run it and they are simply awesome. Phil helps with all the logistics like tables, linens, etc. while Justine helps plan out the menu. They have a great staff too.
They try to use as much local produce as they can and they are reasonably priced. I cannot praise them enough for all that they did that day. Food was excellent, and their service was fantastic. I forgot some of the candles for the tables at my hotel, and we had no time to go back since we had to head to our ceremony, and Phil offered to go back to our hotel room and got them for us. Their website is listed below and I would definitely call or email them as they are always willing to work something out to fit the budget and any other needs you may have.
I would suggest Swoon Kitchenbar in Hudson. They catered our wedding two months ago at the Basilica in Hudson. They really took care of us all the food was spectacular. I think you'll be surprised -- if you need them to do food only you'll be able to get $100 per person which will include the service. I can't recommend them enough if you're going to do Hudson. They recommend Columbia Tent Rentals and can do all the coordination through them.
I thought it would be overly formal to have service and more traditional (though local and delicious!) food but I was glad I didn't try and do something like a bbq. It's worth talking to them for sure and definitely try the food at the restaurant. It will taste the same when they cater it, I assure you.
It might be a little too far south for you, but the woman who owns Back Yard Bistro in Montgomery (off I-84) has a catering company (the restaurant is only 7 tables so I expect the catering business is much of their work). I've never had a bad meal there and their food looks as good as it tastes. Just ate there tonight for HVRW, in fact!
