Singapore - Alsace Wine and Food Festival in November 2012

From late October to November, Sopexa (the agency responsible for promoting French food and beverages internationally) is promoting Alsace wines through various dinners, tastings and by-the-glass deals. Sopexa doesn't seem to have put up the details on their website yet, but after a little detective work, I managed to put together the following list of events for November (full menus and matching wines below, in chronological order of the happenings):

(I need to emphasise for the benefit of the community that I have no financial interest in any of these events; my only interest is that I love Alsace wines and I wish people would drink more of them!)

If you put a gun to my head, I would pick items 2 and 3 as my "must-gos". I love Stephane Istel's cooking at db Bistro Moderne, and his dinner features some pretty spectacular wines. Between the Weinbach Pinot Gris (WS 94 points), Beyer Riesling Comtes d'Eguisheim (Tanzer 91) and the Hugel Gewurz Vendanges Tardives (Bettane & Dessauve 18.5/20), you have a taste of Alsace's finest three grape varieties from three of its finest winemakers across a range of styles. Mark Richards is also creating some pretty exciting food at Keystone. He plays around with avant-garde techniques quite a fair bit but never at the expense of flavour; an exciting home-grown chef to keep an eye on over the next few years.

Throughout the month of November 2012, Rise Restaurant (the all-day dining restaurant) and Rise Lounge at Marina Bay Sands Hotel will also be serving Hugel's 2010 Gentil (a beautifully refreshing blend of Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner) and 2009 Pinot Noir "Classic" by the glass, along with various appetisers and desserts "infused" with Alsace wine.
