Bistro du Midi Last Friday
On the spur of the moment my DC and I decided to go to Bistro du Midi for a late dinner. It has always been a favorite of ours and weren't disappointed. Because it was past 9:00 Pm we didn't have to wait long for a table and the room was only about 70% full.
I started with a perfectly mixed Bullit Rye Manhattan followed by an starter of their Tuna Tartare. The tuna was perfectly fressh and had been marinated ina light soy, sesame sauce that didn't overwhelm the flavot of the tuna. For mains I tried the house made Garganelli with a Duck and Pork Bolognese. This has to be one of the best and most well prepared pasta dishes I have had in a very long time. The Bolognese was very rich and deeply flavored and paired perfectly with the house made Garganelli. Although the serving didn't seem to be very large I had a hard time finishing it because the sauce was so rich and delicious.
My DC had another one of their pastas. It was a house made Tagliatelli with a seafood sauce of mussel, clams and calamari. It was nicely balanced with a rich seafood flavor. Both of us couldn't decide who had chosen the better dish.
For dessert we split an order of their cream filled beignets. We were served four lightly sugared beignets with a nide cream filling along with a dish of hot bittersweet chocolate to dip them in. Absolutely delicious and a perfect ending to our meal.
I don't see to many posts about Bistro du Midi but I have never been disappointed whenever I have been there. The room has a nice atmosphere but if it is busy it can be a bit loud. The service is always very professional and they have a bartender who knows how to mix a cocktail. We are not big wine drinkers but their wine list if quite lengthy with some nice win es at easonable price points. Their wine selections by the glass are also very good.
In all the times I have been there my only disappointment has been with their dessert souffles which must be ordered when you place your dinner order. They are prepared to order but they just didn't hit the mark as well as their other dessert offerings.
