  1. The closest place, but only open until 8:00pm is Chew Chew's Diner. Absolutely the worst website ever, so I'll add a 2nd link.

If you're willing to head over to Carlton & Parliament, your selection increases.

      Googs - I can't believe you didn't say it!

Omi is usually my go-to for dinner before a show at the Pheonix...just make sure it's not the early weekend set times, before you make a reservation...sad to say I've made that mistake a few times now.

I'm waiting for the return of John Lee before I get excited about anything sushi again. Without him, Omi has transformed into a Pan Asian, open 7 days a week, free delivery, with live entertainment weekends establishment. It lacks focus, it lacks the excitement John Lee could always bring, and therefore it lacks me.

That's really tough to hear. I've only been once since John handed it over, and none of the changes you mention had taken effect. I'm not living in Toronto right now, but will certainly make the trip once John figures his next project out.

Sorry for the threadjack, Scott. You might also try F'Amelia, in that neck of the woods.

I don't quite get Chew Chews. I have several friends that swear by it and have been there twice and had really bland diner food. I'm not picky about poutine but even that wasn't so good. But I know many that go there regularly.

We go usually got to Omi or Blake House which is an easy walk to Phoenix. Blake House isn't amazing but it's fairly reliable pub food and the service is always great.

The only diner I ever went to expecting excitement was Goody's Diner. Chew Chew's is what a diner normally is. Solid, reasonably priced, huge portions, friendly service, and comfortable booth seating. For example, the grilled chicken club is a monster of a sandwich with deep grill marks charring the surface of the chicken adding the kind of flavours only a well-seasoned grill can. You want fries with that? You better bring your game day appetite.

I would also 2nd The Blake House. Also Cranberries at Wellsley and Parliament.
