Hi all,

So, I'm hosting a second Thanksgiving party for friends (since the first one was all family), but I'm kind of stymied in my search for a turkey. I'm looking for a straight-ahead grocery store bird, since I don't have the budget for a more high-end one, but I'm not finding any in my local grocery stores.

Does anyone have a tip for a store with whole turkeys in stock still? (Edit: In Toronto, ideally but not necessarily, in the east end.)

I used to get bone-in hams on deep discount 2 weeks after Easter at Food basics on Pape, my suspicion being that they got unsold stock from higher-market stores (because their meat selection is otherwise terrible). So maybe try calling your local one? But its just a guess... There were none at No Frills on Carlaw yesterday (I was hoping for a cheapie for soup & sandwiches!).

Upper Cut Meats in SLM keeps a regular stock.

The Friendly Butcher will order one in for you any time of the year. But it's a heritage bird and not cheap, so may not be what you're looking for. They have a shop on the Danforth.

Hmm, good to know, but my purposes would definitely be better met by a grocery store type bird. Anyone?
