Soba in Pittsburgh...very nice meal

  • 3

An Asian restaurant in pgh. Great menu, well-executed.

They have appetizers labeled as plates to share (a little small if there's more than two of you; our group of 5 did two rounds to get started ( dumplings, spring rolls, fried rock shrimp x 2, & lettuce wraps ). The menu offers other categories to follow the Apps- salads, small plates, big plates, rice and noodle dishes.

The pad thai was a standard one, which is no criticism, a lovely plate of food. Spicy tuna steak with a peanut-y korean BBQ sauce, was just perfect, and the rest of the entrees were without defect.

Service was attentive and helpful.

  1. I can see more of where you were coming from with your view of the PGH dining scene based on the places you visited. SOBA is a quality establishment, but I don't think it is the best of Big Buritto's places. Next time try Umi upstairs - it's Japanese rather than the modern pan-Asian, but it's another place I'm always very happy to visit.

      Who is Big Burrito?

I wondered about Umi. I saw the sign outside, but had no clue where it was. Thanks!

Big Burrito is a Pittsburgh based restaurant company that owns a lot of the better restaraunts in town, including SOBA, Umi, Eleven and a few others. They also own a mini-chain (maybe 10) quasi-Mexican places called Mad Mex. Like Starr or Garces only 'Burgh based.
