Meeting a Swiss friend next Sat for dinner and she loves raw bars looking for a place that will accept reservations but casual dress code, she is staying in Chelsea so there or below would work best. Ideas are most welcomed as Acquagrill had only 1030p avail and that's where she really wanted to go.

thanks so much for any help.

  1. Balthazar

    1. Two other downtown choices: The Dutch (where you also probably won't get a reservations, but could go early for a table) and Giorgione. I love raw bar and go to both of those places with relative frequency. It's been years since I've been to it, but blue ribbon had a v good one -- check and make sure before you go to that one though.

      1. re: Stickies

Blue Ribbon Brasserie in Soho has an excellent raw bar, but no reservations taken for parties smaller than 5 people.

      2. I.M.H.O. the best raw bar overall experience is at Grand Central Oyster Bar. Make sure you sit at the actual oyster bar and not at a table or in the saloon area.It is very unique and will wow an out of towner.
Keep it simple, oysters, clams and chowder are my only recs. The rest of the menu is not memorable.
For two you should not even need a reservation. I've never been there was not at least two seats open @ the bar.
After downing a sampler of osyters head out to dinner.

        1. Kanoyama they have Oyster bar and of course raw fish.
BLT Fish in Chelsea ( although the cooked food is just OK, they do have raw bar.
