Is Momofuku Ssam Bar still a happenin' place?

Now that people are lining up for hours to get into places like Mission Chinese Food and Red Farm, do people still get excited to go to Momofuku? I'm thinking of inviting clients, and am wondering if they'll think I'm lame for inviting them to something passe, or whether it still generates excitement among those who like to go to the "in" places.

If you have a party of at least 6 (I believe it's 6), try making reservations for one of their large format meals. They're awesome, especially the bo ssam. Create a free online account and see what you can get: https://reservations.momofuku.com/log...

I just booked a large format lunch at Ma Peche. But I'm also considering renting out the entire back room at Ssam Bar (the space that used to be Milk Bar). It holds 24 people and is a great space for a group event.

I'm eager to know how that works out, i.e. renting out the back room of Ssam Bar. Please report back. The room has the rotisserie and serves as kitchen preparation for other ordered dishes ...I wonder if they will have another "outlet" to get the roasted ducks out if there's a private event happening in the room.

Ditto. Didn't even know about the back room space. Let us know how it goes!

By back room, you mean Booker & Dax?

As has been pointed out in other posts, MCFNY takes reservations, so there should be no need for a wait. And since Wells' one-star review of Yunnan Kitchen (which I don't like nearly as much after multiple visits), that's likely to be a pretty "happenin" place too.

If I were your client and you invited me to Mission and I had to wait longer than 15 mins-I would fire you!

I don't think Mission Chinese is appropriate for any sort of client dinner. It's essentially a hole-in-the-wall.

On a recent Saturday, my party of 3 still had a one hour wait. So I'd say yes.
