New Years Eve Dinner

  • 5

GREETINGS ALL,

I KNOW IT IS A LITTLE EARLY BUT MY WIFE AND I WANTED TO GET SOME IDEAS FOR NEW YEARS EVE. THIS IS OUR FIRST NEW YEARS AS HUSBAND AND WIFE AND WE ARE LOOKING FOR A RESTAURANT THAT PUTS ON SOMETHING SPECIAL. WE ARE NOT BIG DRINKERS SO ARE NOT LOOKING FOR A BAR WITH FOOD OR AN ALL YOU CAN DRINK TYPE ATMOSPHERE. RATHER, SOMETHING SMALLER, ROMANTIC AND WITH GREAT FOOD THAT WILL ALLOW A LATE NIGHT DINNER WHICH CAN GO THROUGH MIDNIGHT WITH A LITTLE CELEBRATION. WE ARE OKAY WITH A LITTLE DRESSY BUT BLACK TIE IS A LITTLE TOO MUCH. WE LIVE IN KELLER AND WE ARE HOPING THAT WE MAY FIND SOMEPLACE WE CAN GET A CLOSE BY HOTEL ROOM AND STAY THE NIGHT SO AS TO AVOID POST MID-NIGHT DRIVING (NOT MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR TO BE ON THE ROADS.) OPEN ON PRICE ALTHOUGH WE WOULD LIKE TO LIMIT OURSELVES TO $75.00 OR $100.00 PER PERSON FOR FOOD AND UNDER $150.00 FOR HOTEL, MAYBE INCLUDING JUST A CHAMPAGNE TOAST OR A RELATIVELY CHEAP BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE. WE ARE OPEN FOOD WISE BUT STEAK AND SEAFOOD ARE NEVER BAD OPTIONS FOR US. SOME OF OUR IDEAS SO FAR ARE: STAY LOCAL AND HAVE DINNER AT CLASSIC CAFÉ (IN ROANOKE) ASSUMING THEY HAVE A LATE DINNER OPTION, THEN A 5 MINUTE DRIVE HOME (THIS IS OUR BEST, EASIEST AND CHEAPEST OPTION); HATTIES IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE RESTAURANTS IN DALLAS ALTHOUGH I DON’T THINK WE WOULD WANT TO STAY LOCAL IN OAK CLIFF; HAVE DINNER AT DEL FRISCOS IN FORT WORTH (WE HAD OUR WEDDING DINNER THERE THIS PAST JUNE) AND STAY SOMEWHERE IN FT WORTH (WE STAYED OUR WEDDING NIGHT AT THE ASHTON WHICH WAS BEAUTIFUL BUT MOST LIKELY THIS COMBINATION WILL BE A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE THAT WE WERE HOPING TO GO.) CAN ANYONE TELL ME FROM PAST EXPERIENCE A GREAT AND FRIENDLY PLACE THAT WE WOULD LIKE. I WOULD EVEN BE WILLING TO DRIVE OUT OF TOWN FOR THE DAY, EX. TO GRANBURY OR SOMEPLACE SIMILAR IF WE COULD STAY LOCAL. BED & BREAKFAST ALSO WORKS FOR US. THANKS.

  1. If you do decide to keep it local, call Texas Star Dinner Theater (Grapevine Main Street) and see what they have planned for New Years Eve - http://www.texasstardinnertheater.com/

Then stay at Garden Manor B&B 1/4 block off walkable Main Street, also in Grapevine. http://www.gardenmanorbandb.com/

    (Both receive near perfect reviews

    Edit:
You're probably aware of both Bob's and Kirby's for steakhouses, but for small and intimate, contact Cafe Italia (NW Hwy, GV) to see if they will have a New Years Eve dinner option. Ordinarily, they're BYOB, so you'd have control of that often times, price-gouging New Year's Eve factor.

Amici Signature in old town Carrollton might be a very good suggestion as well. And, I think they're still BYOB.
Chef Bartolino's food is fantastic and the room is quite romantic.

I will check these out. A friend also suggested Rough Creek Lodge about an hour outside of Fort Worth. Website looks really nice and it looks like they do a special where you stay and eat at the restaurant which seems to get great reviews. I sent them an email asking of they have anything special for New Years but this looks pretty good. Anyone been?

I have. Its great! You must check it out. Laid back with great food, you'll feel like you're on your honeymoon again!

    2. This won't sound fancy but worth considering: stay at the Springhill Suites West End in Dallas ($149/night on website, call and see if better price), and choose a West End or a Victory Park restaurant. All within walking distance, and there will be a fireworks-and-bands event at Victory Park with a crowd.

We did this a couple of years ago and just did a restaurant crawl, started around 8:00 p.m. and stopped at a few places for a drink or appetizer rather than a whole meal. Ended up at Victory Park for lovely fireworks. If you like the excitement of an event and the crowd, it's fun.
