Sambuca Grille, Scranton- long
Was here this past Saturday for carbs before I ran the Steamtown Marathon.
My husband had the Sambuca salad as a starter, he liked it, really liked the romaine in the salad, nice crunch. My daughter had the soup of the day to start- shrimp bisque, which she also liked.
Bread to the table was cold, no wine list was given to us, waiter recited wines available by the glass to my husband, he went with the Cabernet Sauvignon. No vintage or winery given, just 'Cabernet Sauvignon.' I wasn't drinking, also ate very light with no starter, and a plain dinner of chicken Parmesan with fettuccine. Pasta portion was about 1 cup, which was fine, chicken was pounded thin, very tender & tasty. I wish I didn't have to eat plainly as the menu was varied and looked interesting. My husband had the veal chop special, asked for it medium rare, was very rare near the bone (as sometimes happens,) sent a portion back to the kitchen to be cooked longer, not a problem. Overall he really liked his choice.
My son had a serving of fettuccine with garlic & olive oil, he's got a very limited palate (nicer than saying he's picky?) It was good. My daughter had the spinach ravioli in a pink Zinfandel sauce, which she loved. For dessert son had a chocolate mousse cake with 3 kinds of chocolate and daughter had a lemon & orange sorbet, presented in a frozen, hollowed-out lemon. They both liked their desserts, of course.
Service was attentive at first, then became spotty. Not enough staff for a busy Saturday night? There were definitely a lot of other runners dining. My husband never was asked about a second glass of wine, he had to flag someone down several times for requests. He ended up finishing his second glass of wine during dessert. There was a wonderful pianist playing and singing, not too loud and overwhelming even though we were close to him, it was a nice touch.
Our visit was more good than great overall, spotty at times but I would go back.
