mexican dishes - shredded or ground

random question : do you prefer shredded or ground meat (chicken, beef, turkey, etc) for Tex-Mex/Mexican style dishes?

Shredded. My chili has the consistency of saucy ropa vieja. I smoke chuck or boneless short ribs, then shred. I know the competition chili people seem to be all about cubes, but it just doesn't seem like the right treatment for the cuts of meat used.

We will on rare occasions make American style tacos with ground meat. The rest of the time it's chopped brisket tacos, carnitas taco's, carne asada, machaca...

Same here. They are two different things; one is American and has its place and the other (actual Mexican) is a whole 'nother animal.

Shredded meats. There's less spillage that way (depending on how it's used of course).

Also a great point, I hate when all of the fillings fall out of the opposite side of whatever you just bit into

I prefer shredded meat, it has more texture

Yea, I agree. Also do you feel like it has more volume, thus feels like you're eating more :)
