Kashruth of Italian "amari" of "digestivi" liquors

grandpamarian Oct 4, 2012 06:11 PM

I thought I recalled reading somewhere that the Italian amaro (bitter after dinner drink made from herbs) Averna, from Sicily, was certified kosher. But I can''t find this anywhere. I know that there is some problem with some of the aperitvi drinks because of the nature of the coloring agents, but this is a different class of drinks. Anyone know anything about this?

The CRC lists the Luxardo line on their approved list, including amaro.

Thanks... I checked the CRC list ---- but it's particularly the Averna amaro that I was curious about, and that's a product of the small Averna company. "Amaro" is just the Italian word for bitter. I will however check out the Luxardo drink.
