I stopped by Gongura today for lunch - it's a small place on Rt 27 Edison, across from the Korean BBQ buffet. They advertise "Indian coastal cuisine", which I've never had before, and I was very pleasantly surprised. It's small and informal on the inside, and reminded me of the sort of local shack you might run into down south. There were only a few dishes - maybe 4 or 5 plus rice and soup - and while they were recognizably Indian I haven't had any of them before, except the fried stuffing ball.

The quality was decent and the spiciness was high. My mouth was sort of burning but not to the point where I was in pain or had to guzzle water (aka 4 Seasons). A little hotter would have been perfect, I think, and it didn't last as long as I wanted. Jerk An'ting, for example, still pleasantly burns for a good 15 minutes while I drive back to work.

The only real downsides are the number of dishes and the surly manager guy hanging out on the couch with a laptop. I don't want to see the owner or manager checking email or doing the books in the dining area. Invest in a small office area or do it at home.

Still, a positive experience and I'll be going back. Considering the sheer number of Indian buffets around, that's saying something.
