  1. Tin Lung Heen for the experience of dining in a good restaurant with unparallelled view.- anywhere!!!

The Manor for good value Cantonese fare and high end good quality B-B-Q meats

    YTH - So-So!!\
STL - lost a star!! Food was over-rated even when it was 3*
LKH - Good for Dim Sum but dinner expensive and underwhelmed.
SY - Haven't been, no comment
Farm House - Had lunch there. Not too bad. Decent choice if you happen to be in Causeway Bay. They offer set lunches.

Food Editor of the SCMP, Susan Jung just had a gorgeous dinner at the Manor. Here' are some of the things she wrote on facebook
"Had a fantastic dinner last night at Manor. Guests LOVED the gum cheen gai and the half-piggy (both pre-ordered), lettuce with shrimp paste, eggplant with salted egg yolk and oysters in clay pot."

I took about 20 people there (the Manor) a few months ago and we had all the advance order specials. I thought it was a bit ho hum and even found the legendary pigs average - i.e.nowhere near the wonderful suckling pigs in Spain. One of my colleagues decided to take her parents and grandparents along and reported back they had a poor meal. Note: all their signature dishes are big so don't go with less than eight

            1. re: PhilD

Like all famous HK restaurants, Manor is often over-rated by their loyal customers. Personally, I found their dishes too salty, oily and heavy.

I have to agree, and will add that a lot of the newer ones are often dismissed.

I will hold my hand up and say I know little about Chinese cuisine but have found that when I like a meal my local colleagues like it as well and the same s true when I find food average. As a result I suspect that much of the mystique around dishes is simply that. And if it doesn't taste great it generally isn't rather than the naive diner not getting it.

                  Hi PhilD,

Any suggestions other that the usual suspects?
